Today's Smile (and laugh)

Kids just make you smile sometimes. They say the cutest things.

I've mentioned before that this year in Music class, we have been teaching the students hymns. Each month for "Song of the Month" we introduce the students to a new hymn. It's been exciting to see how the students really love singing these precious songs. On Wednesday we were practicing our songs for Grandparents' Day and during the grade one block we were singing "My Savior's Love." The lyrics are:

I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene
And wonder how he could love me, a sinner condemned, unclean

How Marvelous, How Wonderful and my song shall ever be,
How Marvelous, How Wonderful is my Savior's Love for me!

He took my sin and my sorrows, He made them His very own,
He bore My burden to Calvary and suffered and died alone,

How Marvelous, How Wonderful and my song shall ever be,
How Marvelous, How Wonderful is my Savior's Love for me!

So getting back to my comment about how kids say the darndest things...
I found myself laughing today when 1B was singing this song because they enthusiastically sang,

"He took my sins and my sorrows, He made them His very own,
He bore my burden to Calgary and suffered and died alone."

I could hardly contain myself. I thought it was too funny and I couldn't keep conducting them, so I had to turn off the CD and explain to them that the word was actually calvary. Isn't it funny that they knew the word Calgary and just belted that out? It's about association... and they knew the word Calgary! It's in these moments that I love working with kids and I join the fun with them. It's a reminder to me to have a little fun and not be so serious!!!
